Possible Bear Sighting in Rosenheim District - Hiker encounters rare bear in Germany’s Chiemgau Alps this summer

A woman hiking near Samerberg in the Chiemgau Alps spotted a bear in the afternoon. The animal was standing upright about 200 metres away before she quickly retreated. This is the latest in a series of bear sightings in the region this summer.

The incident took place in the municipality of Samerberg, close to Rosenheim. The hiker first heard unusual noises before seeing the bear in the distance. She did not take a photo and immediately fled the area.

Bears are not typically found in this part of Germany, though they have been moving northward from their usual habitat in the southern Alps. Earlier this summer, other sightings were reported across the Chiemgau region.

The woman’s report adds to growing evidence of bears appearing further north than before. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the same animal was involved in previous sightings. No injuries or property damage were reported in this case.
