A Glimpse into the Boozy World of Cocktail or Neat

Love for spirits and cocktails shines brightly on our Instagram feed, and one of the shining stars we've found is the Kentucky-based YouTube channel, Cocktail or Neat. Run by a passionate couple, Tim and Heather, this channel is creating quite a stir in the Bourbon scene.

Cocktail or Neat does more than just review Bourbons; it provides valuable insights for those considering purchasing an unknown bottle by answering a burning question— is the Bourbon good enough to drink neat, or is it better off in a cocktail?

In this post, we sit down with these spirit enthusiasts to learn about their journey into the world of cocktails and spirits. Here's their inspiring story.

From Beginners to Bourbon Aficionados

Tim and Heather, though not originally from Kentucky, have made Louisville their home for the past decade. They were slowly introduced to Bourbon and eventually fell in love with the spirit, which they now proudly represent in their beloved new home.

The journey began when Tim got bitten by the Bourbon bug during a "just for fun" Pappy raffle. The lucky draw netted them two bottles of Pappy 15, two bottles of Lot B, and one bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle. That first sip sealed his fate, leading him to explore every style of Bourbon, rye, and other whiskies he could find.

Heather, too, soon developed a taste for great Bourbons and the joy of tasting them together led to the creation of their YouTube channel, Cocktail or Neat.

Favorite Drinks & Cocktails

As we sat down for a tasting, Heather shared her love for Mint Juleps and Hot Toddies, while Tim found joy in everyday drinkers like Russell's Reserve 10 year, Friday night tipples like Booker's Bourbon, and special occasion pours like Elijah Craig Barrel Proof.

Inspired by Tim's new hobby, Heather was eager to explore the world of Bourbon together, tasting each spirit neat and then in a cocktail. And so, their YouTube channel was born!

The Power of Sharing Knowledge

Since starting Cocktail or Neat, Tim and Heather have rated over 100 bottles of Bourbon, carefully documenting their findings for future reference. Every new bottle they bring home sparks excitement, and when asked about the next tasting, Heather's first question is always, "when are we tasting that for the channel?"

With a simple yet effective formula of tasting neat and then in cocktails, they aim to encourage others to get out there and find a Bourbon off the beaten path, whether you prefer it neat or in a mix.
