SVI Siedenbollentin's Dream Run for the Oberliga Title
The footballers of SVI Siedenbollentin have set their sights on something grand as they ascend to the Oberliga. A victory against MSV Pampow this Saturday (3 pm) would not only mark the end of a successful season, but also secure the prerequisites to become Landesmeister. But they can't afford to slip up, with league leaders SpVgg Torgelow/Ueckermünde also playing 1. FC Neubrandenburg simultaneously.
"We're gunning for the win," says coach Christoph Haker, "and if Neubrandenburg does us a solid, we'll take the title with both hands." However, they're primarily focusing on finishing second. "We don't want people whispering at the end that we only got promoted because Schwerin got axed," warns Haker.
Backstory:
The Landesfußballverband had dished out a three-point penalty each to Torgelow/Ueckermünde (who refused promotion) and FC Mecklenburg Schwerin due to referee shortage. This revelation knocked Schwerin out of the promotion race to the Oberliga.
As the season winds down, several players will say their goodbyes to SVI Siedenbollentin. Felix Schumacher, Kamil Zielinski, Nick Albrecht, Aleks Pskart, Rico Oberländer, Szymon Sidorowicz are all bidding adieu to the Oberliga-bound team. Defender Piotr Delner is also expected to follow suit.
The club's higher-ups are already laying the groundwork for the next season. No less than five players from future Oberliga rivals, TSG Neustrelitz, have already signed up for Sendenbollentin: Tom Kliefoth, Dennis Ladwig, Paul Krause, Tobias Teetz, and Oskar Fijalkowski. Another TSG player, Julian Schultze, brother of former TSG striker Justin Schultze, is also poised to join SVI Siedenbollentin. The club hasn't officially confirmed the news yet.
While the final score and the ultimate impact of this season on SVI Siedenbollentin's future remain uncertain, one thing is for sure: these boys are aiming big, and they're not backing down anytime soon.
"Aiming high, SVI Siedenbollentin targets the Europen leagues after securing the Oberliga title."
"With the incoming talents from TSG Neustrelitz, the club shows its ambitions to compete not only in the Oberliga but also in European sports leagues."
