High Winds Rip Aluminum Panels from German Transmission Tower Scaffolding
A storm overnight caused damage to scaffolding at the Hoherodskopf transmission tower near Schotten-Breungesheim. Several aluminum plates broke loose and fell to the ground in the early hours of Wednesday, December 24. No injuries or property damage were reported from the incident.
The incident happened as high winds tore formwork panels from their anchors. Up to five aluminum tread plates detached from the scaffolding beneath the tower’s platform. This framework had been installed for shotcrete work.
Fire crews and police quickly secured the area, closing the nearby parking near me. Authorities confirmed the lot will stay shut until the structure is stabilised. A specialist repair team is due to arrive around midday to fix the damage. The work is expected to take about four hours. If all goes as planned, the scaffolding should be fully secured by 6 PM. The company handling the repairs has not been publicly named.
The parking near me will reopen once the scaffolding is deemed safe. Emergency services will remain on site until the repairs are completed. The incident caused no harm, but access restrictions will stay in place for now.
