High-value gold watch valued at over 18 million rupees stolen from a PPP MNA in Spain.
Expensive Gold-Plated Watch Stolen from Pakistani MNA Abdul Qadir Gilani in Barcelona
In a shocking incident, a Pakistani Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Abdul Qadir Gilani had a gold-plated watch worth over Rs18.4 million stolen during a street robbery in Barcelona, Spain.
The incident occurred while Gilani was on a trip with his family. The watch was in his hand when thieves snatched it and fled, making this one of the costliest street crimes involving a Pakistani public figure abroad in recent memory.
Interestingly, Gilani’s host in Barcelona was also a victim of the robbery during the same incident. The gold-plated watch was purchased by Gilani 13 years ago when gold prices were significantly lower.
Abdul Qadir Gilani belongs to a prominent political family, with his brothers—Ali Musa Gilani and Qasim Gilani—also being MNAs, sons of former prime minister and current Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani. The Gilani family of Multan is a well-known political dynasty in Pakistan.
It is worth noting that this theft stands out as one of the most expensive street crimes involving a Pakistani public figure overseas recorded to date.
Meanwhile, Ali Haider Gilani, another member of the family, is a PPP MPA in the Punjab Assembly. Qasim Gilani, another brother, is a newly elected MNA. The three brothers—Abdul Qadir Gilani, Ali Musa Gilani, and Qasim Gilani—are members of the National Assembly in Pakistan.
In August 2024, unsubstantiated allegations surfaced that Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, MNAs Ali Qasim and Abdul Qadir, and their sister Fiza Batool Gilani, had travelled to London using public funds. However, Qasim Gilani, a PPP lawmaker, stated that the London visit was entirely private and not funded by Pakistani taxpayers.
