In a major development, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has green-lit a 166.80 km Greenfield Access-Controlled Highway corridor between Mawlyngkhung, Meghalaya and Panchgram, Assam. "The Union Cabinet has blessed a speedy highway stretch from Shillong to Silchar at an evaluation of approximately Rs 22,864 crore," announced Union Minister Ashiwini Vaishnaw.

This strategic four-lane highway promises to become a vital high-speed link on National Highway 06 (NH-06).
