On a bustling Sunday, the Cologne Police Department implemented a two-pronged strategy of prevention and enforcement to guarantee road safety. In Balve-Volkringhausen and Menden-Schwitten, they established measuring points to monitor traffic and encourage safe driving practices.

In Balve-Volkringhausen, police officers scrutinized vehicles, particularly when there was suspicion of a motorcyclist using a forged Polish driving license and driving under the influence of drugs. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist's name remains undisclosed.

Meanwhile, in Menden-Schwitten, the traffic accident prevention team stopped 24 motorcyclists for discussions about dangerous situations, protective clothing, or risks. Alarmingly, 121 road users were found to be driving hastily.

The most egregious offender in Balve-Volkringhausen was a motorcyclist with a Bochum license plate, measured at an astonishing 130 km/h instead of the permitted 50 km/h in the city. This reckless behavior is likely to result in a substantial fine of 800 euros, two points in Flensburg, and a three-month driving ban.

Fortunately, no cases of driving under the influence were reported after Sunday's incidents.

The police regularly engage in dialogue with motorcyclists, including in Volkringhausen, to promote safe and responsible driving. They also inspect vehicles for illegal modifications or technical defects to ensure they meet safety standards.

In Menden-Schwitten, motorcyclists who speed through the measuring point can be accused of recklessness. One of the drivers also presented a forged Polish driver's license and received additional charges for forgery and driving without a license.

In total, the police initiated 19 proceedings: seven for technical defects (four cars, three motorcycles), five for using a mobile phone while driving, and five reports for prohibited overtaking (including one motorcycle).

A total of 4692 vehicles passed through these two measuring points, including 41 motorized two-wheelers. The police used light barrier technology (ESO) in Menden on the Iserlohner Straße and a radar car was stationed in Volkringhausen.

The police recommend doubling the fine for such offenses, emphasizing the importance of road safety and responsible driving. As the summer season approaches, it is crucial for all road users to remember the potential dangers and drive carefully to ensure everyone's safety.
