High School Girls Athletes in Oregon Refuse to Join Podium with Transgender Athlete; Martina Navratilova Voice Her Opinion on the Matter

In a bold stance challenging the norm, two Oregon high school girls' track and field athletes, Reese Eckard and Alexa Anderson, made headlines at the state championships on Saturday night. The duo stepped down from the high jump podium, turning their backs on a transgender athlete who shared the podium with them.

The trans competitor had finished in fifth place, while Eckard landed fourth, and Anderson took the third spot. The moment was captured on camera by Digital, prompting a reaction from tennis legend Martina Navratilova.

Navratilova, known for her advocacy in female sports, took to X to express her sentiments on theissue. She stated, "Women and girls are punished no matter what they do in this misogynistic world..." She added, "Feminists never asked for this. At least not the great majority of us... never."

Navratilova has been a consistent voice for women's sports, often criticizing Democratic lawmakers who have neglected to step up in support of legislation prohibiting males from competing in female sports.

Earlier in the year, Navratilova criticized Democratic lawmakers who killed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, urging Democrats to "grow a spine." She further expressed disappointment with the Democrats' response to President Donald Trump's "No Men in Women's Sports" executive order, signing it in February, while Democrats failed to follow suit.

Navratilova questioned the Democrats' compromises, "What are the Dems willing to give up for men who identify as trans?" She implied that the Dems might sacrifice issues such as abortion, the Constitution, and the rule of law.

Ryan Gaydos, senior editor for Digital, reported on this incident, emphasizing Navratilova's ongoing efforts to ensure fair play in women's sports. For sports updates and news, follow Digital's coverage on X, and subscribe to the Digital Sports Huddle newsletter.
