High School Football Coach Displays Acting Talent as Institution Unveils Complimentary Game Admission for Children

UNM Football Introduces Humorous Ticket Promotion Inspired by "The Office"

The University of New Mexico (UNM) football team has taken an unconventional approach to boost attendance at home games this season, with the introduction of a ticket promotion that channels the popular TV show "The Office."

In a promotional video, first-year coach Jason Eck, donning a Michael Scott-like persona, offers free tuition to UNM after a misunderstanding with a group of children at Lew Wallace Elementary School in Albuquerque. The video, filmed at the school, features child actors, some of whom are children of athletic department employees.

The promotion, dubbed the "Kids Free Initiative," offers free admission for fans under 12 at New Mexico home football games this season, except for the September 27 game against New Mexico State. The initiative aims to engage the fan base and address the long-standing issue of low attendance at Lobo football games.

Last season, UNM football averaged 16,001 fans, ranking 114th out of 135 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) programs. The team is hoping that the ticket promotion, which aligns with a previous announcement that fans can get in free to most Olympic sports this school year, will help boost attendance and football revenue over the next four or five years.

The creative idea for the video promotion was spearheaded by Chase Christiansen, an associate AD at UNM, and aided by new Senior Associate AD for External Relations Kasey Byers. UNM Athletic Director Fernando Lovo stated that having "butts in seats" has a tangible impact on winning and losing, and that the promotion is about lowering barriers for entry for fans.

The video has received widespread acclaim, with Pete Thamel of ESPN praising Eck's performance. Eck's wife, Kimberly, also praised his acting in the video. The video has been viewed several hundred thousand times on UNM's social media channels, and clips from the video, including a TikTok featuring Coach Eck’s comedic take, have helped spread the promo widely.

More information on the promotion, including the verification process, is available at GoLobos.com. For general questions or concerns, contact web@our website.
