High School Athletics: Four students from GWH secure a total of 12 state championships

The German Senior Indoor Championships are gearing up for two exciting events in February and early March, with the winter throwing events taking place in Baunatal, Hesse, and the main championships in Dortmund. However, the specific list of athletes competing in the shot put events for these championships remains undisclosed.

Meanwhile, Wiebke and Heinz Baseda are focusing their attention on the European Indoor Championships in Poland's Torun this spring. The Basedas have entered various events, including the heptathlon, for the European Indoor Championships.

At the recent state championships, both Wiebke and Heinz Baseda delivered impressive performances. Wiebke Baseda (W65) reached a high jump of 1.24 meters and surpassed her target weight of 9.05 meters in the shot put. Heinz Baseda (M70) achieved a high jump of 1.36 meters and managed to clear 4 meters in the shot put.

The state championships, held jointly with Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the Hamburg Athletics Hall, served as a qualifier for upcoming championships for some athletes and a test of personal performance for others.

In addition to the Basedas, other athletes shone at the state championships. Beate Lenzing (W60) narrowly missed 8 meters in the shot put and easily cleared 1.09 meters in the high jump, winning three state championship titles in the W60 age group. Cäcilia Apel-Cranz (W65) won one state championship title, impressively clinching the 200-meter race.

The Basedas and Lenzing will reunite a week later at the German Senior Indoor Championships in Dortmund, where Wiebke Baseda will also compete in the javelin throw. Four senior lightweight athletes from SV Grün-Weiss Harburg won a total of 12 state championships, further demonstrating the high level of competition at these events.
