Kohala Lady Warriors Sweep BIIF DII Awards

The Kohala Lady Warriors dominated the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Division II (DII) softball scene this spring, not only securing the second-place finish but also claiming several individual accolades.

The team's impressive season culminated in a 9-4 overall record and a 7-1 league record, qualifying them for the DII state tournament. Four players from Kohala were named to the DII team, including Maile Karratti (junior third baseman), Raine Cazimero (freshman outfielder), Faith Alejandro-Cazimero (senior first baseman), and Sophomore Kealohi Ili (shortstop).

Ili, the squad's leader in hits (23), runs (23), RBI (23), triples (four), and home runs (five), was a standout performer for the Lady Warriors. Senior Maya Domingo-Bautista, who hit .310, was also selected for the team.

Senior pitcher Kalia Marquez, Kohala's lead ace, led the team in innings pitched (64.3), wins (nine), and strikeouts (55). In the decisive BIIF DII championship game, Marquez pitched all 7.0 innings and struck out six.

In addition to the individual success, Makamae Kaleikini, the manager of the Lady Warriors, was named DII Coach of the Year.

Meanwhile, in the BIIF DII baseball division, Bruin Agbayani from Saint Louis was named the Player of the Year by All-Hawaii Division I selections. In the softball realm, Hi'ilani, a player from an unspecified team, was named the BIIF Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-BIIF.

Honoka'a's Kana'i Tolentino and Brandi Hoopai were the two Lady Dragons that made the DII team. Tolentino, the team's top slugger, led in hits (19), RBI (17), doubles (five), and triples (four). Hoopai hit .412 in her final season in a Dragons' uniform.

Also from Honoka'a, Ariana Kobayshi, senior second baseman, and Kawena Alatini, senior utility, were named to the DII team. Alatini led the Lady Daggers in a multitude of hitting and pitching categories.
