High Court Judge Justice Maturi Girija Priyadarsini of Telangana passes away during her tenure.

Hyderabad Mourns: The unexpected demise of Justice Maturi Girija Priyadarsini, a prominent figure in the Telangana High Court, sent shockwaves across the legal community this Sunday. At the tender age of 61, the esteemed judge breathed her last in the morning.

Her residence in Hafeezpet now stands as a somber tribute, with her body kept within. The solemn ceremony of her final rites will take place on Monday at Mahaprasthanam, Jubilee Hills.

Deep condolences pour in from Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, fellow judges of the High Court, and the legal fraternity. Having joined the Telangana High Court in 2022, Justice Priyadarsini's departure leaves a profound void in the judicial system, owing to her 16th position in seniority amongst her peers and her impending retirement next year.

Born to Maturi Appa Rao, a Commercial Tax Officer in Telangana, and Nagaratnam, the judge's early life remains shrouded in mystery. A quick glimpse into her personal life reveals that she married Dr. K Vijay Kumar, and together they welcomed two sons, Nikhil and Akhil.

Justice Priyadarsini's academic prowess unfolded as she pursued Master's degrees in Sociology, Public Administration, and Political Science from Andhra University. Following that, she completed her law studies at N.B.M Law college, Visakhapatnam in 1995, before proceeding to earn her postgraduate degree in Law (L.L.M) in Labour and Industrial Law from Andhra University in 1997. Remarkably, she stood first in Constitutional Law, securing the highest marks.

Enrolling as an advocate in the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh in September 1995, the determined judge commenced her career with P. Uma Bala's office for about seven years. She then actively served for over ten years at Vishakhapatnam, handling a diverse range of cases in civil, criminal, labor law, and matrimonial matters, and extending her aid in pro-bono cases referred by the District Legal Services Authority of Vishakhapatnam.

Later, she was chosen for direct recruitment as a District Judge and joined the judicial service as an Additional District Judge on November 3, 2008. Justice Priyadarshini left her indelible mark in various places across the then combined state of Andhra Pradesh before being elevated to a seat on the High Court for the State of Telangana on March 24, 2022.

Throughout her illustrious career, Justice Priyadarsini demonstrated an unwavering commitment to uphold justice and the law. While specifics of her landmark cases remain elusive, her tenure at the High Court has left an indelible impression on the judiciary of Telangana.
