Delhi High Court Welcomes Two New Judges

The Delhi High Court expanded its bench with the appointment of two new judges on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Justice Vimal Kumar Yadav and Bhavini Srivastava were officially sworn in as judges of the court.

Justice Vimal Kumar Yadav, who has over three decades of judicial experience, was appointed as a judge of the Delhi High Court. His name was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on July 28, and received final approval from the central government on August 8. The oath was administered by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya at 10 AM on that day.

Justice Yadav previously served as Principal District and Sessions Judge at Patiala House Courts. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by fellow judges, senior advocates, family members, and prominent members of the legal community.

Bhavini Srivastava was also sworn in as a judge of the Delhi High Court on the same day. Her appointment was not a temporary or acting appointment. The event took place at the Delhi High Court, but the exact details of her swearing-in ceremony are not known.

The appointments of both judges bring the strength of judges at the Delhi High Court to 45, increasing it from the approved strength of 60 by 9. However, this still leaves 15 vacancies at the court.

The appointment of Justice Vimal Kumar Yadav did not fill the vacancy left by a retiring judge, as his name was not proposed by the Supreme Court Collegium to fill a specific vacancy. Similarly, the appointment of Bhavini Srivastava did not fill a vacancy left by a retiring judge.

The Delhi High Court is an important court in India, with jurisdiction over the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union territories of Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is one of the busiest high courts in the country, handling a large number of cases each year. The addition of two new judges is expected to help reduce the backlog of cases and improve the efficiency of the court.
