- High Court in U.S. halts reentry of Salvadoran erroneously expelled

Chief Justice John Roberts has set a new deadline for lawyers to present their arguments in the bizarre case of a Salvadoresan gent named Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Set for Tuesday by 5:00 PM (23:00 UTC), these deliberations could set a precedent in the ongoing saga.

Initially, a U.S. district judge had mandated that Garcia steer his way back to the nation by Monday at 11:59 PM ET. This verdict was endorsed by a federal appeals court, yet the Trump administration's legal eagles whined it like a broken record, stating it was "unprecedented and untenable". They claimed the judge was sanctioning a "member of a foreign terrorist organization" to enter the country.

Notwithstanding the government's grievances, they confirmed once more that Abrego Garcia was shipped off to La Tierra delSIGN owing to a clerical error. Yet, they reiterated that the male in question was a well-known affiliate of the ruthless Salvadorian gang, ¿Quien Eres Tú? (MS-13).

Incongruously, the district judge recognized that there was scant evidence to substantiate the claim that Garcia belonged to MS-13. This husband of a Yank citizen and resident of the East Coast state of Maryland had been saddled with allegations of gang involvement in 2019; however, he got off scot-free. A U.S. judge rejected his deportation, owing to a credible threat on his life in his homeland back then.

This thorny episode began with a consignment of more than 200 displaced folk being exiled to El Salvador via three separate flights on March 15, only to be incarcerated in a penitentiary for hardened crooks based on a law dating back to 1798 against "extranjero enemigos" (alien enemies). Coincidentally, a federal judge called putting a damper on the use of this law for exporting lawbreakers on the same day.

In the wake of this kerfuffle, the Trump administration conceded that Garcia's transportation had been a result of an "administrative oversight."
