Hidden References in Freakier Friday: A Look at the Parent Trap Cameo and Other Overlooked Easter Eggs
In the much-anticipated sequel to the beloved 2003 film Freaky Friday, titled Freakier Friday, fans are treated to a delightful blend of nostalgia and fresh storytelling.
Producer Kristin Burr found the idea of Chad Michael Murray's character having a girlfriend resembling Jamie Lee Curtis' character from the first movie to be "hilarious." This humorous touch sets the tone for the sequel, which doesn't shy away from paying homage to the original.
One of the most notable Easter eggs in Freakier Friday is the character Anna, played by Lindsay Lohan, hiding behind Britney Spears' In The Zone album during the movie. The sequel also features a glimpse of Jake's new girlfriend who resembles Tess, with a pixie cut and garish dress, a nod to the original film.
Elaine Hendrix, who played Meredith Blake, the antagonistic stepmother in The Parent Trap (1998) alongside Lohan, makes a cameo in Freakier Friday as the editor-in-chief of a magazine. This cameo reconnects Lohan with a past co-star and film from her early career.
The sequel also brings back the original Pink Slip band members, Maddie and Peg, for Anna's bachelorette party. Lindsay Lohan's character is getting married in Freakier Friday, and the wedding date, October 3rd, is significant not only in the movie but also in Mean Girls, another iconic Lindsay Lohan film.
Director Nisha Ganatra recalled the decision to include Chad Michael Murray in the wedding scene of Freakier Friday in an interview with Elle. Murray reprised his role and even sang a rendition of Britney Spears' 'One More Time'.
Anna's character in Freakier Friday has transformed into Tess, repeating her signature catchphrase "Make good choices!" to her own children. Manny Jacinto plays Eric in the film, adding a fresh dynamic to the story.
The initial reviews suggest that Freakier Friday is the nostalgia injection everyone needed. With its clever Easter eggs and heartwarming homages, the sequel is a must-watch for fans of the original Freaky Friday.
