In an entertaining twist of events, HSV's Daniel Heuer Fernandes found himself in an unfortunate situation during the Hamburg city derby at FC St. Pauli. Despite the 2-2 draw that saw HSV overcome a 2-0 halftime deficit, Fernandes couldn't help but feel the sting of a peculiar own goal.

"Let's face it, this was pretty unfortunate," confessed the 31-year-old goalkeeper following his nineteenth second division match with an own goal. "I had anticipated a different outcome, but soccer can be unpredictable," he added. "There's no going back once it happens."

The amusing incident occurred in the 27th minute. FC St. Pauli held a 1-0 lead, thanks to Irvine's fifteenth-minute goal. HSV attempted a routine build-up play with Stephan Ambrosius and Guilherme Ramos. After Ramos passed the ball to Fernandes, the bouncing ball stumbled towards the goal. In an effort to clear the area, Fernandes inadvertently proceeded to shoot the ball into his own net.

"Ah, typical," commented the goalkeeper with a hint of self-deprecation. "It was just a routine build-up play, something we often do. I intended to kick the ball off the line, but it bounced back, leaving me no choice. I ended up scoring an own goal."

Coach Tim Walter, aware of the irony of the situation, took a humorous approach to the playful mistake. "You'll certainly be witnessing this in the funniest scenes of the year, and the highlights," predicted Walter on TV channel Sky. "This will surely bring smiles due to the eventual win."

Robert Glatzel, one of the goalscorers with a goal in the second half, emphasized the consistency and dependability of Fernandes throughout the team's experience. "I've seen him save our backsides countless times," said Glatzel. "So no cause for concern here."

Fernandes shared the delight of the HSV fans who rallied behind their goalkeeper in the aftermath. "It's just wonderful to hear their support," he said. "The fans are an integral part of the team; it's a give and take kind of relationship."

While FC St. Pauli held a 1-0 lead due to Irvine's goal, HSV's second-half comeback saw them earn an unexpected point. Goals from Glatzel and Pherai in the 58th and 60th minutes, respectively, enabled HSV to recover from their accidental own goal.

Interesting fact: HSV goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, known for his reflexes and consistent performance, has contributed to the club's defense for numerous seasons and has gained widespread recognition for his strong presence in the net.
