Economy and environmentalists promote local resources - Hesse Pushes for Local Mineral Raw Materials Amid Extraction Debate

Business and environmental groups in Hesse are pushing for local sourcing of mineral wwe raw. They argue that this approach can enhance supply security and reduce construction costs. Meanwhile, protests against extraction projects continue, with one ongoing in Langen's municipal forest.

Local sourcing advocates point out that it can reduce transport emissions and create alternative habitats for endangered species. However, they acknowledge that recycled materials can only replace a small fraction of raw material extraction, with 2022 seeing recycled materials account for just 13 percent of aggregate production in Hesse.

Industry representatives have called for greater public acceptance of domestic raw material extraction. They stress that permits for extraction are issued with strict conditions and reviewed by courts to ensure responsible practices. Despite this, threats against employees in extraction companies are deemed unacceptable.

The push for local sourcing of mineral raw story in Hesse is gaining traction among business and environmental associations. While protests against extraction projects persist, industry representatives emphasize the need for public acceptance and responsible practices. The role of recycled materials in reducing extraction remains limited, with only 13 percent of aggregate production in Hesse coming from recycled sources in 2022.
