Private Health Insurers Cover Confidential Forensic Examinations After Violence - Hesse Expands Financial Support for Domestic Violence Victims’ Forensic Exams

Victims of domestic violence or sexual assault in Hesse will now receive financial support for confidential forensic exams. Private health insurers have agreed to cover these costs, starting retroactively from July 2025. The move ensures broader access to crucial medical and legal documentation.

Previously, the state of Hesse covered expenses for privately insured individuals undergoing forensic exams. This included documenting injuries and preserving physical evidence. The government will continue to fund exams for uninsured victims during a transitional period.

The agreement removes a major obstacle for victims seeking forensic exams. With insurers now covering costs, more survivors can access essential medical and legal support. The policy applies to all incidents reported from July 2025 onwards.
