More spending for people with disabilities in Hesse 2026 - Hesse boosts 2026 social welfare budget by €147.5 million to aid disabilities
The Hesse State Welfare Association (LWV) has announced a significant budget increase for 2026. The planned spending of around €2.71 billion marks a €147.5 million rise from the previous year. This expansion aims to support more people with disabilities and strengthen social services across the region. The LWV's budget is largely funded by mandatory contributions from Hesse's counties and independent cities, known as the Verbandsumlage. Despite the overall budget growth, local governments will pay less than initially expected, with their contributions set at roughly €2.05 billion for 2026. The budget increase will expand support for vulnerable groups in Hesse. Over 64,000 people with disabilities will benefit from the additional funding, while local authorities' financial burden remains lower than anticipated. The changes reflect a targeted effort to improve social welfare services across the region.
