Video evidence without screen: Hertha wins in Münster - Hertha BSC snatches late win after VAR monitor chaos disrupts penalty call

Hertha BSC secured their second straight win with a dramatic 2–1 victory over Preußen Münster. The match took an unusual turn when a VAR monitor malfunctioned due to masked intruders unplugging it, leading to a crucial penalty for the hosts.

Marten Winkler's late stoppage-time goal sealed the result after a tense second half.

Hertha BSC entered the game aiming for back-to-back wins following their 2–1 triumph over Nürnberg. Despite controlling possession and creating clearer chances, they struggled to break through until the 45+4' minute, when Fabian Reese converted a penalty. The spot-kick was awarded after the VAR screen went dark—caused by masked intruders unplugging the monitor—forcing officials to rely on the referee's on-field decision.

Preußen Münster responded quickly after the break. In the 46' minute, Oliver Batista Meier's cross found Jannis Heuer, who levelled the score at 1–1. The visitors pushed for a winner, but Hertha BSC held firm.

With time running out, Hertha launched a swift counterattack in stoppage time. Marten Winkler capitalised on the break, firing in the decisive goal in the 90+3' minute to secure the 2–1 victory.

After the match, head coach Stefan Leitl adjusted his season target, now aiming for a sixth-place finish after previously dismissing promotion hopes. The win marks a positive shift for a side that finished 11th last season, showing little improvement in league position since their relegation from the Bundesliga.

The three points move Hertha BSC closer to their revised goal of sixth place. The incident with the VAR monitor added an unexpected twist, but Reese's penalty and Winkler's late strike ensured the win. Preußen Münster, despite their equaliser, leave empty-handed after failing to hold on.
