Hertha BSC Appoints Peter Göhrlich as New CEO and Announces Changes in Youth Academy Leadership

Hertha BSC, the Berlin-based football club, has announced significant changes in its leadership team. Peter Göhrlich, a seasoned sports executive with a deep understanding of the professional football industry, has been appointed as the club's new CEO, effective from September 1st.

Göhrlich, a 58-year-old prominently qualified sports scientist and MBA holder, brings a wealth of experience to the table. He previously served as CEO at TSG Hoffenheim from 2015 to 2021, where he gained extensive management experience at the highest level of football.

The decision to appoint Göhrlich was made unanimously by the board and the supervisory board of Hertha BSC, highlighting his technical and personal suitability for the role. Göhrlich's qualifications include:

  • Academic: A PhD in Sports Science and an MBA
  • Professional: CEO experience at TSG Hoffenheim (2015–2021)
  • Technical: A sports scientist with a deep understanding of both sporting and economic aspects of professional football
  • Personal: An experienced leadership figure with a strategic approach and a passion for the sport

Göhrlich will form a dual leadership with Ralf Huschen, who will once again focus on his core area of finance. The duo is expected to steer the club towards a sustainable, future-proof direction.

Meanwhile, Rainer Widmayer is reported to succeed Andreas Neuendorf as the head of the youth academy at Hertha BSC. The position remains unfilled as of now.

In other news, the Berliners are still on the lookout for a striker. Mergim Berisha of Hoffenheim recently turned down an offer from Hertha BSC.

Peter Göhrlich is set to be introduced to the public in September. It's worth noting that he recently took over the management of SHR University Heidelberg.

Interestingly, Göhrlich was recommended for the CEO position at Hertha BSC by a personnel consultancy agency. However, according to Kicker information, he is leaving his newly signed contract for his engagement with Hertha BSC.

Göhrlich's experience leading companies with a focus on health, coupled with his proven leadership qualities, makes him an excellent fit for the role of CEO at Hertha BSC. The club, known for its rich history and passionate fanbase, is looking forward to the new leadership team steering it towards success in the coming seasons.

Peter Göhrlich, the new CEO of Hertha BSC, has a deep background in sports, particularly football, as evidenced by his previous role as CEO at TSG Hoffenheim in European leagues. The club's youth academy also undergoes changes, with Rainer Widmayer reportedly succeeding Andreas Neuendorf.
