Hertha BSC Aims for Promotion, Seeks Financial Reinforcements

Berlin-based football club Hertha BSC is aiming for promotion, but the roster for the upcoming season remains uncertain as the club seeks to generate transfer income.

In a statement following the club's annual general meeting, finance chief Ralf Huschen (46) confirmed that Hertha BSC still requires transfer income to bolster its financial situation. This comes on the heels of the sales of playmaker Ibrahim Maiga (19) to Bayer Leverkusen for €12 million and striker Sherrant (22) to Freiburg for €2 million.

The departures have left a vacancy that Hertha BSC intends to fill by selling loaned-out players who have no future with the second-division club. This list includes center-back Agustin Rogel (27), left-winger Kelian Nsona (23), goalkeeper Robert Kwasigroch (20), and midfielder Bradley Ibrahim (20).

Sporting director Benjamin Weber (45) revealed that the club is primarily targeting German players who are familiar with the league. Nevertheless, income generation is the immediate priority.

Meanwhile, Hertha BSC is also witnessing changes in its youth teams. Michael Hartmann, formerly U19 coach, is replacing Dirk Kunert as talent coach, while Ante Covic takes charge of the U19 team.

Hertha BSC's squad is set to be bolstered by the return of several loaned players, such as Maximilian Bauer from Kaiserslautern, Dion Beljo from Rapid Vienna, Tim Breithaupt from Kaiserslautern, David Colina from Velje, Kyliane Dong from Troyes, Lasse Günther from Karlsruhe, Marcel Lubik from Tychy, Chrislain Matsima, Patric Pfeiffer, and Irvin Cardona.

The club has also sold players to generate transfer funds, with Ibrahim Maza's move to Bayer Leverkusen being a significant contribution. Hertha BSC is also anticipating further sales, particularly among loaned players like Robert Kwasigroch and others.

Fabian Reese, a forward, recently signed a long-term contract extension with Hertha BSC, demonstrating the club's focus on retaining key players amid the transfer activity.

Hertha BSC's strategy for the 2025/26 season appears to be a careful balance of internal reinforcements, including loan returns, and selective external acquisitions to address financial constraints following the sale of talented players like Maiga, Sherrant, and Maza.

In light of the sales of Ibrahim Maiga and Sherrant, Hertha BSC aims to fill the created vacancies by selling loaned-out players like Agustin Rogel and Kelian Nsona. The club is also focusing on generating transfer income by targeting German players who are familiar with European-leagues.
