Tuesday: Chancellor Election and Swearing-In Ceremony

- With a majority in the Bundestag, Merz only needs 316 votes to assume the office. While the Bundestag comprises 328 politicians from the Union and SPD, Merz's election is expected to be a foregone conclusion. Historically, the Chancellor's election tally has often fallen below the number of coalition seats.
- Post-election, Merz will receive his appointment certificate from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Schloss Bellevue and will be sworn in at the Bundestag. This will be followed by the appointment and swearing-in of the new cabinet.
- Afternoon hours will see the first power transfer at the Chancellery and the ministries, potentially also the first cabinet meeting.
Wednesday: Overseas visists and a European Debut
- Assuming a smooth transition, the new federal chancellor will embark on his inaugural visits to France and Poland, engaging with key European neighbors.
Thursday: World War II Remembrance
- As a solemn tribute, eighty years after the end of World War II, the Bundestag will commemorate the liberation from Nazi tyranny.
Friday: Further International Engagements
- Merz may undertake additional foreign trips, as well as continue domestic policy initiatives.
