"Here it begins again! Söder returns to Oktoberfest, stirring up controversy with a questionable sartorial choice"
The 190th Oktoberfest has officially begun in Munich, as the world's largest folk festival opened its gates to eager guests on Sunday. The clear blue sky and temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius provided a pleasant start to the 16-day celebration.
First in line were enthusiastic visitors who had been waiting at the fences since the early morning hours. As the festivities commenced, Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU) and Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) stood side by side in Lederhosen, the traditional Bavarian outfit, to tap the first keg.
The first beer was traditionally given to Markus Söder, who expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating that the Oktoberfest brings "pure joy of life" and serves as a break in challenging times. Millions of guests are expected to attend annually, with a record of over seven million in previous years.
Beer lovers should note that a liter of beer will cost up to 15.80 euros. For those seeking a more extravagant experience, dishes can cost over 400 euros.
Smoking is still not allowed at the Wiesn, and the knife ban has been extended to the surrounding area for this year's festival. Visitors are encouraged to celebrate responsibly and enjoy the festivities until October 5th.
In a nod to tradition, Markus Söder clinked glasses with Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter at the Oktoberfest, marking the official opening of the event. Despite the Franconian region not traditionally wearing Lederhosen, Markus Söder opted to don the outfit for the occasion.
As the first keg was tapped and the first beer was poured, the 190th Oktoberfest in Munich was underway, promising a memorable 16 days of fun, food, and festivities for all who attend.
