Shakira, age 48, took the stage at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium for her record-breaking world tour, "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran" (Women Don't Cry Anymore), performing for over two million fans across North and South America. The UK's BBC recently got a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the singer before the show.
Her relationship with former footballer Gerard Piqué, 38, lasted nearly 11 years but ended in 2022. On stage, Shakira shared her thoughts, "Many of you know the last few years haven't been the easiest for me. But who doesn’t stumble once in a while, right?" she asked a sea of cheers. "A fall isn't the end, but the beginning of an even better journey." This personal upheaval fueled her creative energy.
Recently, Shakira collaborated with Argentine producer Bizarrap to release "BZRP Music Sessions #53." In the track, she candidly addressed her ex and his new partner, empowering herself and her fans with lyrics about resilience and growth. She sang, among other things, "[He] traded a Ferrari for a Twingo…" indicating a perceived downgrade in lifestyle.
Work Wards Off Sorrow, Kids Light Up the Dark
Performing on such an enormous scale demands a constant high, even on off-days. "To pull off a show of this magnitude every night, it doesn't matter if you feel down or are going through a tough time - you’ve gotta give your best and somehow make it happen," Shakira shared. She credits the adrenaline for keeping fatigue at bay.
Her children, Sasha (12) and Milan (10), are her major source of strength. As they grow older and can understand her concerts better, they have become regular attendees. Seeing the boys on screen while performing a heartfelt song like "Acróstico," written for them, warms Shakira's heart, as she explained, "[My heart melts] every time I see them on the screen and hear their little voices." Her children serve as her motivation, prompting her to stay strong amidst the ups and downs of separation.
Being a mom of two, Shakira can't escapedisplay her emotions for long. She uses these moments to share valuable lessons with her children, assuring them, "there's no perfect show, mistakes are alright." In a beautiful twist, the boys sometimes join Shakira during performances, from behind the scenes––a precious moment for the Colombian singer.
Sharing her music with her family and fans brings Shakira immense joy. "It's a precious moment," she admitted, expressing her desire to bring her music to audiences all over the world.
"Shakira admitted that her children, Sasha and Milan, serve as her motivation to stay strong, lighting up the dark times for her."
"During her record-breaking world tour, Shakira not only entertains millions with her music but also empowers herself and her fans through candid lyrics, comparing her ex's new car to a downgrade from a Ferrari."
