Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin allegedly declined to offer guidance to David Corenswet regarding his 'Superman' role.
In the upcoming Superman film, "The Suicide Squad Presents: Peacemaker," set to release on July 11, actor David Corenswet will take on the iconic role of the Man of Steel. Unlike some of his predecessors, Corenswet prepared for the role without relying on specific advice from past Superman actors.
Corenswet's preparation was rooted in a disciplined strength and conditioning program, a high-calorie bulk diet, and a practical approach to fight scenes. He trained intensively with Paolo Mascitti, a renowned trainer, who designed a traditional push–pull–legs workout program focusing on heavy compound lifts such as squats, rows, presses, and weighted pull-ups. Corenswet's training sessions, which lasted nearly two hours almost every day, emphasized not only muscle growth but also core strength to support Superman’s dynamic physicality.
In terms of diet, Corenswet consumed approximately 4,500 calories per day for five months, helping him add approximately 18 kilograms of muscle and bodyweight to convincingly fill out Superman's iconic suit. This intense physical transformation was natural—he explicitly stated he did not use performance-enhancing drugs but pushed himself to the edge of his physical capabilities in a sustainable way.
For the portrayal itself, Corenswet focused on practicality for fight choreography, using straightforward punches and haymakers because Superman is not depicted as a martial arts expert. He also adapted to the physical demands of wearing the tight Superman suit, which was initially sized before his bulk-up and felt constricting at first.
At the London premiere, Corenswet shared that Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin did not offer detailed advice on playing Superman. Instead, they chose to encourage him heartfeltly, telling him they would not try to give him any tips on playing the character. Corenswet believes this aligns with Superman's character, who is not for giving advice or dictating how others should be.
As for the other characters in the film, Skyler Gisondo will play Jimmy Olsen, Rachel Brosnahan will portray Lois Lane, and Isabela Merced will portray Hawkgirl. Nicholas Hoult will take on the role of Lex Luthor, while María Gabriela de Faría will play The Engineer.
Corenswet looks forward to the day when he can meet Cavill and Hoechlin in person and thank them for their positive and encouraging interaction. Despite not receiving specific advice, he is ready to make the role of Superman his own.
David Corenswet, while preparing for his role as Superman in the upcoming film "The Suicide Squad Presents: Peacemaker," focused on maintaining his health through a rigorous strength and conditioning program, a high-calorie diet, and practical fight scene choreography. Unlike some other actors, Corenswet did not receive detailed advice from past Superman actors like Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin, but instead received encouraging words from them. In the realm of entertainment, Corenswet's television and movie preferences remain unmentioned. However, his dedication to the role of Superman is evident in his physical transformation and approach to the character.
