Dramatic fire incident at the Steyler Missionaries Monastery in Sankt Augustin (near Bonn). A blaze broke out on Wednesday evening, forcing an evacuation. According to the fire department, five people sustained injuries as a result.

Some 67 individuals had been residing in the affected part of the building, as per a fire department spokesperson: "Fortunately, all occupants were evacuated safely, and the building is now secure." Given the importance of preserving the monastery's historical value, the primary objective was to protect the central nave – the building's historic heart – from the flames. Successfully accomplished.

Extinguishing the fire proved challenging due to the fire's location in the attic of an extension, which could only be reached from the inner courtyard. Accessing the inner courtyard with turntable ladders was also a challenge. The full extent of the damage remains uncertain.

No hints of arson-related activities were reported, according to a Sankt Augustin police spokesman.

Approximately 250 firefighters worked tirelessly until Thursday morning to extinguish the flames. The Steyler Missionaries are a distinguished Catholic religious order dedicated to training priests from around the world.

It appears that a catastropic event has taken place at the Steyler Missionaries Monastery in Sankt Augustin, causing injury to several individuals and putting the building in danger. However, with the determined efforts of the fire department, the majority of the historic building was salvaged. The police have also ruled out any suspicious activities in relation to the fire.
