Hellgate High School will send seven of its wrestlers to compete in the 2024 All-Class State Tournament in Missoula.

The Hellgate Knights wrestling team is gearing up for the 2023-2024 Montana High School Association (MHSA) winter State competitions, with the MHSA All-Class State Wrestling tournament marking the beginning of the season. On Thursday, Feb. 8, the team will embark on their journey to First Interstate Metra-Park in Billings, with the opening ceremonies commencing at 9 A.M. on Feb. 9th, and wrestling scheduled to begin at approximately 9:20 A.M.

This year, the Hellgate Knights will have a record number of representatives in the State tournament. Nine wrestlers will compete, including Dillon Gunlock, who is excited to compete at State this year after missing out last year. The boys' team will be represented by Oliver Caton (113), Max Martin (113), Edison Rosbarsky (120), Dillon Gunlock (160), and Porter Ferree (205).

Oliver Caton, at 113 pounds, secured his spot in the State bracket by placing 6th at the Western AA Divisionals. Max Martin followed closely behind, placing 8th at the same tournament to qualify for the 113-pound bracket. Porter Ferree, at 205 pounds, qualified with three varsity wins, including a win by fall, and a 6th place finish at the State qualifying tournament.

Edison Rosbarsky, who finished his culminating season with an overall 13-17 record, featuring eleven AA wins and six wins by Fall, placed 7th at Divisionals with a 3-2 record. The freshman Olive Hoffman, at 145 pounds, is the only Hellgate wrestler not in the graduating class of 2024 and finished her opening year with a 10-8 record, placing second at divisionals.

The girls' team will be represented by Olive Hoffman and Kenna Schmaus, a senior at 145 pounds, who placed second at divisionals and finished her senior year with seven varsity wins. Kenna Schmaus had a successful senior season, and her performance is a testament to the promising future of the Hellgate girls' team, with Olive Hoffman showing a particularly bright future.

The Hellgate Knights will have the greatest number of representatives in the last decade of competition at the MHSA All-Class State Wrestling tournament. The action from the tournament can be followed online on NFHS and trackwrestling.com for those unable to attend in person.

Dillon Gunlock expressed his excitement about competing at State this year, and the team's determination is palpable. With a record number of representatives and a strong lineup, the Hellgate Knights are ready to make their mark at the State tournament.
