Heino on Hannelore: "I think of her with every song"

Heino, the beloved German folk musician, recently divulged that his concerts are a bit more challenging following his wife's demise a month prior to his 85th birthday. "I think of her with every song and visualize her in the front row," Heino shared in a candid conversation with ARD's magazine "Brisant."

Blindsided by her sudden passing, Heino recounted, "There were no warning signs, everything was seemingly fine. She didn't suffer, it was a secondary death. That's the sole comfort." Heino and Hannelore had been partners for 44 years, and he could scarcely recall any dissent between them. "We couldn't have argued about anything, not a thing. What could we possibly have disagreed upon? We had everything."

Whether the audience's excitement pulsates or wanes, the eternal German folk legend often finds himself traversing down memory lane, revisiting the deeply rooted love and harmonious companionship shared with his late spouse during their remarkable 44-year journey.

Though her passing has shifted Heino's personal life and living arrangements, it hasn't affected his music career or passion for performing in a significant way. Following Hannelore's demise, Heino has been residing under the same roof as his long-time manager, Helmut Werner, Warda Werner, and their son in Kitzbühel, which has provided him with a sense of family and comfort.[1]

Heino's enthusiasm for music and performing remains undiminished, evidenced by his continued goal of being on stage until he turns 104, taking cues from his role model, Johannes Heesters, who performed until an impressive 104 years old.[1]
