Heidenheimer Crisis: CEO Comments on Schmidt - Heidenheim’s Bundesliga crisis deepens as winter transfer plans take shape

FC Heidenheim are struggling at the bottom of the Bundesliga, having picked up just five points from 11 matches. The club’s leadership is now exploring transfer options for nearly every position ahead of the winter window.

Recent heavy defeats, including a 6-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen and a 3-0 home loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach, have added pressure on the team to turn things around.

The club’s poor form has led to discussions about potential changes, though CEO Holger Sanwald has made it clear that head coach Frank Schmidt retains full support. Schmidt himself admitted that adjustments may be coming but noted that 'the clock has been turned back', suggesting a reset in approach.

One area under review is the goalkeeper position. Diant Ramaj, currently on loan from Borussia Mönchengladbach, has seen limited game time, and a further loan move in January is being considered to bolster the squad. The club is also monitoring other positions, with new signings possible if performances do not improve.

Injuries have added to Heidenheim’s difficulties. Striker Budu Zivzivadze will miss the upcoming match against Union Berlin due to a knee problem. Meanwhile, the team remains without an away point this season, increasing the urgency for fresh momentum.

Sanwald’s backing of Schmidt comes despite the team’s struggles, reinforcing stability in leadership even as tactical and personnel changes are weighed up.

Heidenheim’s winter transfer plans aim to address weaknesses across the pitch. With no away points yet and key players sidelined, the January window could bring reinforcements. The club’s focus remains on climbing the table and reversing their current run of defeats.
