  1. FC Heidenheim secured their first point of the season with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at VfL Wolfsburg. The result, though not the win they wanted, marked a small but important step for the struggling side. After being stuck at the bottom of the table, the team finally climbed two places into the relegation playoff spot.

"A point is better than none": Heidenheim climbs - Heidenheim earns first point of the season in hard-fought Wolfsburg draw

The match began strongly for Heidenheim, who held the lead until the final whistle. Manager Frank Schmidt later praised his players for their defensive stability and ability to keep a clean sheet for much of the game. Despite the late equaliser, the team’s performance—particularly in the first half—earned recognition.

Three new winter signings were announced during the January 2026 transfer window: Hennes Behrens, a left-back on loan from Hoffenheim until June 30, 2026; midfielder Christian Conteh from Eintracht Braunschweig; and defender Leonidas Stergiou, also on loan from VfB Stuttgart. Stergiou made his debut in the Wolfsburg match, while Behrens is set to join full training this week. Conteh, however, may need another week or two before being match-ready. Striker Mathias Honsak acknowledged the frustration of not securing all three points but noted that one point was still better than none. The result, though disappointing, offered a glimmer of hope for a team desperate to improve their position.

The draw at Wolfsburg gave Heidenheim their first point of the campaign and lifted them out of last place. With new signings integrating and defensive improvements on show, the team now looks to build on this performance. Their next challenge will be turning narrow draws into much-needed wins.
