Heavy Snowfall Sweeps across Dalmatia: Mosor Experiences Initial Snowfall of the Season, Biokovo Records 10 cm Depth
Rewritten Article:
brace yourself for a chilly blast, folks, cause it's wintertime in Dalmatia! Despite its usual Mediterranean charm, the Croatian region got a taste of old man winter on Tuesday, along with a hefty dose of bura wind.
If you've been in Dalmatia recently, you probably dug out your winter wardrobe and questioned the sanity of stepping outside into the blustery bura wind. But, for those who braved the elements, they'd likely agree they would've been better off cozying up at home.
Tuesday's weather in Dalmatia kept the cloud cover rolling, with most of the rain hitting areas south of Makarska and the islands. The cyclone center moved to the southern Adriatic, causing the region to chill significantly, as reported by Dalmacija Danas on Nov 27, 2018.
Not even this gloomy day managed to escape the rainfall. Metkovic and Vrgorac welcomed over 30 liters of rain per square meter, while Hvar, Korčula, Pelješac, and the Dubrovnik area saw between 10 to 20 liters.

The day was marked by a nippy bura wind that picked up speed in the evening, with some coastal spots reaching a bone-chilling 100 km/h!
Though Tuesday's temperatures weren't quite Arctic, they brought about a noticeable drop in air temperature. The Dinara saw -5° C, while Sv. Jure on Biokovo hit -3° C. By 3 pm, there were around 10 centimeters of snow, with the snowfall reaching about 1,300 meters above sea level.

Late in the afternoon, Mosor received its first snowfall of the season, only on the mountain's highest peaks. At Star Village Mosor, the temperature dipped to 3.7° C around 5 pm - if the temperatures keep plummeting at this rate, the villages of Dubrava and Gornje Sitno might also see some snow.
Expect the weather to steadily settle down on Wednesday, but with the bura wind picking up and bringing temperatures even lower.

The chilly bura wind that swept through Dalmatia on Tuesday wasn't just intense in the evening, but also managed to strengthen, reaching a bone-chilling 100 km/h in some coastal spots. This windy day didn't only bring a significant drop in air temperature, but also rainfall, with Metkovic and Vrgorac receiving over 30 liters per square meter.
If the temperatures continue to plummet at their current rate, weather-forecasting suggests that the villages of Dubrava and Gornje Sitno might experience snowfall, like Mosor already did in the late afternoon, receiving its first snowfall of the season on its highest peaks.
Despite the gloomy weather-forecasting for Wednesday, expect the bura wind to pick up and temperatures to drop even lower. If you're curious about winter in Croatia, you can learn more on our dedicated page.
