Heavy snowdrifts trap two drivers on rural K81 road overnight
Heavy snowdrifts blocked a key county road overnight, leaving two motorists trapped in their vehicles. The K81 between Haverlah and Steinlah became impassable by Sunday morning, causing lengthy delays and a major rescue effort.
The trouble began late on Saturday night. Between midnight and 7:30 AM, deep snowdrifts formed along the K81, making travel impossible. A 54-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man found themselves stuck in separate cars, unable to move.
Emergency crews worked for nearly seven hours to clear the road and free the stranded drivers. Despite their efforts, conditions remained difficult. Police have since warned drivers to avoid the area, as further snowdrifts and limited clearing resources continue to pose risks.
Authorities have advised using alternative routes until the situation improves. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The K81 remains hazardous due to ongoing snowdrifts and restricted snow-clearing operations. Drivers are being urged to plan different journeys until the road is fully safe. The incident highlights the challenges of sudden winter weather on rural routes.
