Heavy snow triggers multi-vehicle crash on Germany’s A7 motorway
A series of accidents disrupted traffic on the A7 motorway early this morning. Heavy snowfall between Bad Bramstedt and Hamburg led to hazardous conditions, including a major collision involving a van and two lorries. Several other incidents caused delays, though most resulted in only minor damage.
The first serious crash happened at around 5:50 AM near Schnelsen-Nord. A 27-year-old Romanian driver lost control of his Mercedes Sprinter on the icy left lane. The van skidded, struck the central barrier, and then collided with two articulated lorries in the middle and right lanes. Both the driver and his passenger suffered injuries.
Oil spilled from one of the vehicles, forcing authorities to close the middle and right lanes until 9:55 AM. Meanwhile, heavy goods vehicles struggled on slippery exit ramps, with some lorries sliding backward due to the snow. In total, six accidents occurred along the same stretch, though most involved only minor property damage. By 10 AM, conditions had improved, and no further incidents were reported on the motorway.
The accidents caused significant disruption during the morning rush hour. While most collisions resulted in minor damage, the Sprinter van crash left two people injured and required lane closures. Traffic returned to normal once the weather cleared and cleanup efforts were completed.
