Numerous Car Accidents Due to Winter Weather - Heavy Snow Paralyzes Saxony-Anhalt with Traffic Chaos and Road Closures

Heavy snowfall has triggered widespread disruption across Saxony-Anhalt, causing multiple traffic accidents and road closures. The severe weather led to icy conditions, leaving many drivers stranded and forcing temporary shutdowns in the Harz region.

The worst of the chaos unfolded on Friday afternoon, when three weather-related accidents were reported in Dessau-Roßlau. One incident, occurring at noon, left a 24-year-old driver with minor injuries. Public records confirm the injury but do not name the individual involved.

Most collisions resulted in property damage rather than serious harm. In Dessau-Roßlau alone, the total cost of damages surpassed €25,000. Beyond the city, lorries repeatedly became stuck on routes between Barneberg and Helmstedt, as well as on the A2 motorway near Magdeburg.

The Harz region faced some of the harshest conditions, with snowdrifts piling up to a metre deep. Local authorities temporarily closed roads as a precaution, though no major injuries were reported in the area.

The snowfall has eased, but the aftermath remains visible across the region. Clearing operations continue, and drivers are advised to exercise caution as icy patches persist. The financial and logistical impact of the accidents will likely take days to fully assess.
