Heavy snow in Almaty grounds flights as Air Astana warns of delays
Air Astana has alerted passengers to monitor flight status updates on their official website or mobile app. This comes after heavy snowfall and low visibility at Almaty International Airport on Saturday, November 15, 2025, led to flight delays and cancellations.
The severe weather, common during winter at the airport, caused disruptions to both domestic and international flights. Affected domestic flights included those from Shymkent, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Karaganda, Aktobe, and Semey. International flights from Sharm El-Sheikh, Tashkent, and Delhi also faced delays.
Airbus operational restrictions on certain aircraft types, such as the A320neo, A321neo, and A321LR, due to supercooled fog and visibility below 150 meters, further contributed to the delays.
Air Astana prioritises flight safety above all else. Passengers are advised to check the latest flight status updates and expect potential delays, especially for flights operated by Airbus NEO aircraft, due to adverse weather conditions.
