Heavy Snow and Icy Nights in the Southwest - Heavy snow blankets southwest Germany as winter strikes early

Heavy snowfall swept across southwest Germany overnight, leaving thick blankets of snow in many areas. The southern Black Forest and parts of the Swabian Jura saw some of the highest accumulations, with forecasts warning of even colder weather ahead.

The German Meteorological Service (DWD) reported widespread snow across the region. In the southern Black Forest, Feldberg recorded around 15 centimetres, while Villingen-Schwenningen saw 8 centimetres. Further north, the western peaks of the Swabian Jura and areas near Ulm received between 1 and 4 centimetres.

The sudden snowfall has transformed parts of southwest Germany into a winter landscape. With freezing temperatures on the way, the snow is unlikely to melt soon. Residents and travellers should prepare for icy conditions in the days ahead.
