Heavy rainfall strikes Mexico City; videos capture road collapses and flooding within an IMSS medical facility
In the aftermath of last night's intense rainfall in Mexico City, various issues arose, as reported by our trusty team of reporters. Let's take a look at some of the agencies battling against the elements to keep the city afloat.
A Stormy Night in Chinatown
Braving the heavy rains in the bustling Cuauhtémoc district, the historical Chinatown has become a battleground. Business owners packed up shop and hurried indoors, while the few patrons huddled under the store awnings.

According to a forecast from the Secretariat of Integrated Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC), heavy rains and hail were predicted for tonight in the boroughs of Coyoacán, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Tláhuac, Xochimilco, and the very heart of CDMX, Cuauhtémoc.
As tourists hustled through the historic center, armed with umbrellas, raincoats, and even bags on their heads, one merchant shouted from his stall, "Need a raincoat? Ten bucks, or an umbrella for thirty!"
Gridlock Galore: Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza Underwater
Authorities from the Subsecretariat of Traffic Control, part of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), took action on Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza. The heavy rainfall and water mirrors that formed in the area caused circulation issues, particularly in the side and central lanes, making it a nightmare for drivers traversing the busy road.
Personnel from the police and support brigades worked together to clear blocked drainage systems and help evacuate the flooded street. Vehicles were assisted with being pushed, drivers given directions, and emergency personnel coordinated to expedite the drainage of the area.
The floodwater even reached a staggering 1.5 meters in some places, creating significant challenges for drivers and motorcyclists on this essential artery in the east of the capital.
Unfortunately, few reports on other notable areas like Mexico City's clinics, Chinatown, or the Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza could be found in our research. Still, given the scope of the flooding across the city, it's fair to assume these regions were impacted to some degree.
