Heavy rainfall persists in Mainz, paving the way for a new heat wave
Meteorologist Dominik Jung has described the summer of 2025 in Mainz, Germany, as one characterized by extremes. The overall temperature during the summer has been very warm, with June marking heatwaves that pushed temperatures above 35 degrees.
July, however, was surprisingly changeable, with periods of sunshine, heavy rain, and storms. But August has settled back into stable summer weather again, with the weather currently sunny, hot, and dry.
According to Jung, a high-pressure area named "Ines" is causing a "stable heat phase" with plenty of sunshine and dry air in Mainz. This high-pressure area is responsible for the weather in Mainz being characterized by high temperatures and plenty of sunshine.
The forecast for Mainz indicates a warming trend until mid-August, with temperatures reaching highs around 97-98°F (about 36-37°C) on August 13-14. After this peak, there will be a gradual cooling and more moderate temperatures towards the end of August, generally in the range of 75-80°F (24-27°C).
Around August 12 to 15, Mainz is expected to experience hot and mostly sunny weather, with highs around 91-98°F (33-37°C) and lows in the 60s°F (around 15-20°C). From approximately August 16 onward, the forecast suggests a decline in temperatures to more moderate summer values, with highs dropping to the mid-70s °F (about 24°C) and lows staying near 60°F (15-16°C).
Humidity will generally remain moderate to low in this period, and precipitation chances are low, suggesting dry conditions with partly cloudy skies toward the latter part of August. Wind speeds are mild to moderate, mostly from the northeast, with speeds around 10-15 km/h.
This overall pattern reflects a transition from the extreme heat experienced earlier in the summer to a more typical late summer weather pattern with comfortable warmth and some cloudiness but little rain. Despite the rain in July, the summer of 2025 has been often dry in Mainz.
Jung also stated that there will be no thunderstorms in the coming days in Mainz, and the weather forecast shows no upcoming heavy showers or changeable weather. This means those who like heat are getting their fill in Mainz, but those hoping for a cool-down will have to wait a bit longer.
The upcoming heat wave in Mainz, predicted around August 12 to 15, is part of the transition from the extreme heat experienced earlier in the summer, with temperatures set to reach highs around 91-98°F (33-37°C). This relatively stable weather follows the surprisingly changeable month of July and the hot, dry period in August, indicating that the summer of 2025, despite the rainfall in July, has predominantly been a dry season in Mainz. This weather pattern is a typical late summer phenomenon, characterized by hot temperatures, dry air, and low humidity, which is a common feature of environmental-science studies on weather patterns.
