Denmark is bracing for another round of heavy rain and potential cloudbursts over the weekend, according to the Danish Meteorological Agency (DMI).

The weather system moving east towards Sweden may bring more heavy showers to Zealand on Saturday, with some areas remaining dry throughout the weekend. However, there will be marked differences between regions, as reported by DR.

Friday is expected to see multiple "cloudbursts", sudden downpours in which 15 millimetres of rain falls within half an hour, in several parts of Denmark. This comes after July 2021 saw several incidences of cloudbursts, and DMI issued its first ever "dangerous weather" alert for rain.

The current low pressure system over Denmark combined with humid and unstable air means more cloudbursts are expected heading into Friday evening. This is the third consecutive year in which so much rain has fallen in July that the month has been added to the list of Denmark's ten wettest Julys on record.

A category 1 alert for cloudbursts has been issued for most of Denmark until Friday evening, with only the most northern parts of Jutland and Zealand not affected. The forecast for Sunday does not provide specific details about the location of heavy showers on that day, but temperatures are expected to reach no more than 20 degrees Celsius and sporadic showers are likely.

At the time of writing, no specific rain contingency plans from Denmark's government have been mentioned. It is advised to stay updated with the latest weather updates and follow any instructions from local authorities if necessary.
