Heavy rain warnings issued for Primorye region by meteorologist Vilfand
Get ready, folks! Here's some rough news for residents of Primorsky Krai: heavy rain is coming on May 10 and 11. Roman Vilfand, the boss man at Russia's Hydrometeorological Center, spilled the beans in a chat with "Interfax."
He said, "With a cyclone passing through, we're expecting some serious downpours in Primorsky Krai." Yikes!
Now, don't get all worked up, but he also warned us that this rain could cause some problems on our rivers.
Back on May 5, the Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations (MCDES) shared some not-so-great news. They reported that from May 1 to 4, the region had got up to 70 millimeters of rain. As a result, river levels rose, putting populated areas, private properties, and roads at risk of flooding. Places like the Anuchinsky, Chuguyevsky, Partizansky, Yakovlevsky districts, and the cities of Spassk-Dalny and Partizansk were hit the hardest.
And it got worse. On May 2, we heard that a bridge in the Partizansky district was washed away by a storm, leaving three settlements cut off from transport.
So, it seems like the folks in Primorsky Krai have been through this before. But, as it stands now, there's no confirmation of any new flood warnings or transport disruptions related to the upcoming rain event on May 10-11. Still, given the region's history of flooding and infrastructure damage, it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
As the big day approaches, keep your ears open for any updates from local weather and emergency services. Stay safe!
- Roman Vilfand's weather forecast indicates a potential increase in precipitation in Primorsky Krai on May 10 and 11, due to a passing cyclone.
- The Partizansky district, specifically, has previously experienced infrastructure damage due to heavy rain, as revealed by the events of May 2 when a bridge was washed away.
- The Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations (MCDES) reported increased river levels and subsequent flooding risks in the region between May 1-4, due to up to 70 millimeters of rainfall.
- Despite having no current confirmations of flood warnings or transport disruptions related to the upcoming rain event, it is prudent to keep monitoring weather and emergency services updates in Primorsky Krai, given its past susceptibility to flooding and infrastructure damage.
