Heavy Rain in Delhi: Navigating Flooded Roads and Traffic Snarls Today

Recent heavy rains in Delhi have led to significant waterlogging in several areas, causing travel delays and safety hazards for commuters and residents. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued active monsoon conditions, with very light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected over the next several days, implying persistent waterlogging issues.

The rain on Thursday, September 23, 2022, marked the second consecutive day of light to moderate rain in Delhi, with a total rainfall of 31.2 mm recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. The rainfall has left numerous parts of the National Capital Area soaked, causing rush hour congestions.

The Delhi Traffic Police has released a list of waterlogged areas to avoid, including the Libaspur underpass, Maharani Bagh Taimur Nagar cut, CDR Chowk, Mehrauli towards Gurugram, Andheria Mode towards Vasant Kunj, and the stretch near Hanuman Setu on Shanti van to Hanuman Mandir Carriageway. The rainfall did not introduce any new waterlogged areas or traffic advisories.

However, the traffic police also advise avoiding the location under the Nizamuddin bridge, Singhu Border near the fuel pump, and MB Road towards Sainik Farm carriageway. The Yamuna river in Delhi has risen above the danger mark as of August 28, raising flood concerns and likely increasing waterlogging risk in adjacent low-lying areas.

In August 2025, key waterlogged locations reported in Delhi include Vasant Kunj, R.K. Puram, Connaught Place, Minto Bridge (on August 9), Minto Bridge, Vijay Chowk, Moti Bagh flyover, Rafi Marg, Nizamuddin flyover, Rao Tularam Marg (on August 12), various roads and stretches in Delhi-NCR including National Highway 48 near Gurugram and Narsinghpur stretch (waterlogging and traffic disruption on August 22), and Baba Kharak Singh Marg and other key areas in Delhi following heavy rains on August 25.

Residents and commuters are advised to be particularly cautious in the mentioned areas, as heavy rain has caused severe traffic congestion and in some places has brought the city to a crawl in recent weeks. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and coordinate relief efforts amid ongoing monsoon rains.
