Heavy Rain Batters Central Vietnam, Flash Floods and Landslides Feared
Heavy rain is pounding central Vietnam, particularly Huế and Đà Nẵng cities, and parts of Quảng Ngãi Province. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF) has issued warnings, with rainfall already exceeding 170mm in some areas.
The storm has brought strong winds offshore, affecting Cồn Cỏ and Bạch Long Vỹ, and causing gusts up to level 8 on Lý Sơn Island. Inland, provinces from Hà Tĩnh to northern Quảng Trị are expected to experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms. While rainfall intensity is expected to reduce from Thursday, deep flooding in Huế and Đà Nẵng may persist, posing a high risk of flash floods and landslides. The Vu Gia - Thu Bồn river system in Đà Nẵng City remains high, despite declining water levels on the Hương and Bồ rivers in Huế City. In the northern East Sea, winds may reach level 7, with gusts of level 8 to 9 and waves of 3 to 5 metres.
Central Vietnam is grappling with heavy rain and flooding, with Huế and Đà Nẵng cities expected to receive up to 400mm of rain. The NCHMF warns of persistent flooding and a high risk of flash floods and landslides in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines.
