Heavy Rain Alerts in Bengaluru: MET Department Warns of Traffic Disarray due to Intense Showers

Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Forecasted for Bengaluru and South Interior Karnataka

Residents in Bengaluru and several districts of Karnataka, including Udupi, Shivamogga, and Uttar Kannada, are bracing for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued advisories predicting a renewed spell of showers with strong winds across the region.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru, which will be in effect until July 26. The alert warns of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, with humidity expected to remain high. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items and drive with caution, as traffic disruptions may occur due to waterlogging and gusty winds.

For July 27, heavy rains and cloudy conditions are expected, with temperatures ranging between 19°C (minimum) and 27°C (maximum). On July 28, scattered rain under cloudy skies is predicted, with similar temperature ranges. The weather is expected to remain cool and breezy, with intermittent rain and wind continuing through the end of July and into the beginning of August. However, there are no prolonged dry spells predicted during this period.

In addition to the yellow alert for Bengaluru, parts of the state are under orange alert. Udupi is one such district currently under orange alert. Uttar Kannada is also under orange alert, indicating a higher risk of heavy rainfall and potential disruptions.

The monsoon season is a crucial time for understanding and following IMD's weather alert systems. People living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, especially near the coastline, have been advised to remain vigilant. Fishermen have also been warned to avoid water bodies due to strong winds and rain-related disruptions.

On July 22, Bengaluru started experiencing generally cloudy skies with moderate rain, and temperatures ranging from 28°C to 29°C during the day and 20°C at night. This trend is expected to continue through July 25. Wind speeds in Bengaluru and surrounding areas may reach between 40 kmph and 50 kmph.

The IMD advises residents to stay updated on the latest weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period. For more information, visit the IMD's official website or follow their social media channels.
