Heavier Rainfall Alert in Bengaluru: Indian Meteorological Department Warns of Disruptions Due to Intense Showers and Road Congestion
Bengaluru, the technology hub of India, is set to experience continuous rainfall from July 22 to July 27, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather forecast predicts generally cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain, with temperatures ranging between 28°C to 29°C during the day and 20°C at night.
Key details of the forecast include:
- Rain: Heavy rainfall is predicted from July 14 to July 18, with scattered moderate to heavy showers continuing beyond mid-July. Rain is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, with ongoing cloud cover.
- Temperature: Temperatures will generally range from lows around 20-21°C in the mornings to highs near 27-29°C during the day, maintaining mild and pleasant conditions during rain spells.
- Wind speeds: Winds can reach up to about 31-32.4 km/h during this period, associated with rain-bearing weather systems and thunderstorms.
- Humidity: Relatively high, hovering between 70% and 85%, contributing to a humid and damp atmospheric feel.
Residents are advised to carry umbrellas and raincoats, plan indoor activities during heavy rain spells, and exercise caution on wet roads due to slippery conditions and wind.
From July 26 to July 27, rain is expected to persist in Bengaluru, with similar temperature trends and high humidity continuing. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and predicts renewed showers with strong winds in Karnataka this week.
Apart from a five-day alert for rain in Bengaluru, parts of Karnataka, including Uttar Kannada, Shivamogga, and Udupi, are on orange alert. The IMD's orange alert for these areas indicates intense rain is expected. People living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, especially near the coastline, have been advised to remain vigilant. For Bengaluru and surrounding areas, wind speeds are likely to range between 40 kmph and 50 kmph at times, making it advisable for residents to secure loose outdoor items and drive with caution.
Recently, heavy rain reportedly slowed down traffic on stretches of R P Road near Windsor Manor and Bhashyam Circle. However, no specific travel advisory has been issued for Karnataka or Bengaluru specifically.
This forecast reflects a significant monsoon activity phase in Bengaluru, with a shift to wetter, cooler, and moderately windy weather through at least July 18, with similar weather likely extending possibly up to July 27 based on the ongoing pattern.
