Don't miss out on the opportunity to claim a heating subsidy in Germany if you're using fuel, wood pellets, coal, or liquefied gas for heating! Act fast and submit your application before October 20.

To qualify, your residence should rely on non-piped energy sources such as wood pellets, fuel oil, wood chips, briquettes, logs, coal, or liquefied gas. Deliveries between January 1 and December 1, 2022, or orders received by March 31, 2023, and delivered the same year, may make you eligible.

The federal government covers 80% of the expenses that exceed double the base amount. The base amount ranges from 100 to 2000 euros, depending on the type and quantity of fuel used. Don't forget to include a fuel invoice and proof of payment in your application. In multi-tenant properties, landlords are responsible for managing the application process.

Visit the regional Service Portal, Driveport if you live in Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, or Thuringia to apply. If you reside in Bavaria, the Ministry of Family Affairs, Labor, and Social Affairs manages applications. North Rhine-Westphalia utilizes its own portal, requiring federal identification or Elster for authentication.

Regardless of the federal state, you can submit applications until October 20 of every year. The processing time usually takes around 6 weeks.

In case your residence doesn't fulfill the criteria for this subsidy, look into alternatives such as support from the Jobcentre or Social Welfare, depending on your income, and monthly energy bill assistance. Explore federal funding programs, like the Funding for Efficient Buildings, for renewable energy technologies like heat pumps, which may offer additional benefits for non-piped energy sources.
