In the heart of the Eastern Conference race, New York City Football Club (NYCFC) finds themselves seven points adrift of the leaders. As they prepare for a crucial stretch of matches, the Cityzens are determined to make up ground and break their own record for most points in a season.

The upcoming fixture list presents a mix of challenges and opportunities. After hosting footballing legend Lionel Messi and his Paris Saint-Germain teammates on September 24, NYCFC will face their arch-rivals, the New York Red Bulls. However, the immediate focus lies on Saturday's home match against Charlotte FC, a team currently in form, having won all of their last six competitive matches.

Last season, Alonso Martinez scored a stoppage-time winner against Charlotte FC in a ten-minute cameo, offering a glimmer of hope for NYCFC fans. With a victory this time around, the Cityzens would go even on points with Charlotte, having played one less game.

Coach Pascal Jansen acknowledges the importance of each game in the final stretch of the season. While the narrow gap between NYCFC and the league leaders, The Philadelphia Union, is not the main focus, Jansen emphasises the challenges ahead. The Cityzens will travel to play the league leaders, Philadelphia Union, in their next regular season game.

Looking further ahead, NYCFC's final regular season game will be against the inaugural Leagues Cup winners, the Seattle Sounders. However, Jansen is focusing on taking the team one game at a time, starting with Saturday's home match against Charlotte.

Wilfred Zaha leads the lines for Charlotte FC, under the guidance of head coach Dean Smith, who faced NYCFC in their last encounter. With the pressure mounting, both teams are set for an exciting showdown in the heart of the Eastern Conference race.
