Heated clashes erupt between Giants and Jets during shared training session
The ongoing rivalry between the New York Giants and the New York Jets spilled over into their joint NFL practices this week, resulting in a physical altercation at the Giants' team facilities.
The high-energy sessions, designed to evaluate talent and simulate game conditions, often lead to heightened tensions. This time, those tensions boiled over into a brawl, as evidenced in the video recap from August 2025.
The incident started when the Giants' offensive line took offense to a tackle made by Jets defensive lineman Will McDonald on running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. This initial altercation soon escalated, with Giants rookie Marcus Mbow joining in to help offensive lineman Greg Van Roten in his physical altercation with McDonald.
Meanwhile, a separate confrontation took place between Giants lineman Jon Runyan Jr. and Jets cornerback Quan'tez Stiggers. Runyan had previously taken issue with one of linebacker Jamien Sherwood's tackles during the same practice. Russell Wilson and Aaron Stinnie of the Giants intervened to stop a potential altercation between Stiggers and Runyan.
The contrast in practice styles between the two teams may have played a role in the physical altercations. While the Jets have been practicing with full contact, the Giants have not, creating a fundamental difference during their joint practices.
Despite the brawl, these joint practices are crucial for both teams' preparations. Key players, including those recovering from injuries, use these sessions to regain form and sharpen their defenses. The Giants' defense, for instance, was reported as strong in these matchups, contributing to a charged atmosphere on the field.
The Giants' offensive line, including Aaron Stinnie, have been actively intervening to prevent altercations during their joint practices with the Jets. However, the ongoing tension between the two teams due to their contrasting practice styles seems to be a persistent issue.
As the NFL season approaches, it remains to be seen if the rivalry between the Giants and Jets will continue to heat up on the practice field. One thing is certain: these intra-city rivals are not holding back their competitive spirits, even in training sessions.
