Heat Wave Alert: Only Corsica under Orange Awareness on Sunday and Monday

As France braces for a much-needed respite from the scorching temperatures, the meteorological service, Météo-France, has confirmed that the current heatwave, which began on June 19 and lasted 16 days, is coming to an end [1][2]. The drop in temperatures, initially expected to reach Corsica on Monday, is now anticipated to arrive earlier, starting from this Sunday afternoon, spreading across the Mediterranean arc [3][4].

However, Météo-France has not yet provided any specific forecast about the next heatwave after this one. The focus currently remains on the ongoing heatwave’s peak and the immediate relief forecasted for early July 2025.

This weekend, the Bastille Day celebrations are expected to be hot, with Corsica remaining under the orange heatwave alert until Monday [5][6]. The risk of forest fires also affects the Aude and Var from Monday [7]. Inland areas, especially, will continue to experience high temperatures, while the coastline will start to see a significant drop in temperatures.

Despite the relief in sight, Météo-France has warned of the "very high" risk of forest fires on Sunday in the Bouches-du-Rhône [8]. Residents are advised to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines to prevent any potential fires.

As we move into the second half of July, it is essential to keep a close eye on Météo-France’s future forecasts for any updates regarding the next heatwave. For now, France can look forward to a period of cooling and relief starting July 2-3, 2025.

  1. As France transitions from the ongoing heatwave to a period of cooling, it's crucial to monitor Météo-France's future weather-forecasting for any indications of the next heatwave, especially considering the environment's sensitivity to such extreme weather conditions.
  2. As high temperatures persist in inland areas and the risk of forest fires remains, citizens are encouraged to pay heed to Météo-France's weather updates and safety guidelines to ensure an eco-friendly and safe Bastille Day celebration while minimizing any potential environmental impact.
