Heartfelt appeal by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for child safety safeguards

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are take action where it matters most – keeping kids safe online.

Appearing in New York City on April 23, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex showcased their commitment to this mission through The Lost Screen Memorial, an impactful tribute to children who fell victim to the dangers lurking within the digital world. Sponsored by their Archewell Foundation, the memorial features 50 smartphones displaying lock screen images of the youths remembered.

"We've been working with these families for years," expressed Meghan, age 43, at the event as reported by People magazine. "Despite the division in the world, one thing everyone agrees on is that our children should be secure online."

The pair hosted a private vigil at the event, taking time to converse with grieving parents––many of whom are part of The Parents' Network, a global support system established by Archewell Foundation. A virtual version of the memorial holds voice messages and backstories for each photo.

When quizzed on advice for parents, Harry didn't sugarcoat it. "The simplest advice is to keep your kids away from social media. Life's less complicated without it," he said. "But clearly, it's not enough. Yet, it's not enough."

Meghan emphasized the need for a global conversation on this topic. "It's a truth universally acknowledged that our children are endangered by the digital realm," she added, before noting, "What these parents represent is hope and the potential for a safer future."

So, how can parents join the fight?

  • Participate in advocacy efforts: Get involved in initiatives spearheaded by Archewell Foundation calling for stricter regulations and safer digital spaces for children.

  • Support local events: Rally behind or organize local vigils, memorials, or awareness events in your area to keep the issue in the limelight and honor the victims, unifying parents, tech leaders, and policymakers in the quest for change.
